Now Showing: The Wedding of Maddy & Theo
Maddy and Theo met in high school and began dating in 2014, building the kind of steadfast love that only deepens with time. When they reached out in mid-August 2025 about booking a December Minnelopement that same year and asked if they could get married outside, I hesitated.
Now, I’m a hearty born-and-bred Minnesotan. I can handle a sub-zero forecast like the rest of us natives. But the thought of them standing outside in freezing temps on their wedding day? It didn’t feel like the warm, joy-filled experience I want for our couples.
So, I offered something different: a custom Minnelopement on our October Minne Wedding (our more enhanced micro wedding package) date at the iconic Hollywood Theater.
They were ecstatic.
“We LOVE going to the movies and typically see at least one in theaters each week!” Maddy replied.
It was kismet.
Setting the Scene: A Theater Inspired Celebration
When The Hollywood Theater, a landmark in Northeast Minneapolis, opened in 1935, it was described as “the Twin Cities' most beautiful and modern neighborhood theater” and the "incomparable showplace of the Northwest.” After entertaining audiences for decades, it sadly closed in 1987 and was left to crumble. Recently, a local investor purchased the theater from the City of Minneapolis for $1, roughly the cost of two tickets and bag of popcorn when theater first debuted. It was then gutted and the Art Deco splendor of the building, both the facade and the interior, were faithfully restored as a unique event venue boasting polished terrazzo floors, a stunning lobby fountain, vintage light fixtures, poster cases, and a customizable marquee. Since I live just a few blocks away, I had to pay it a visit last Fall. The minute I stepped foot into its lobby, I knew this venue’s unique character and historical charm would be the perfect setting for Minne Weddings.

From Pins to Premiere
For every Minne Wedding, we curate a Pinterest board that captures our vision for each date that includes its textures, tones, floral, fashion, and all the little details that will shape the design. It’s where concept meets possibility and where the design story begins.
For our Hollywood Theater date, we leaned all the way into autumn romance with a nod to old Hollywood glamour. Think rich, cinematic color palettes. Velvet textures. Dramatic candlelight. A touch of vintage sparkle. The design pulled inspiration from classic film-era elegance—tailored silhouettes, deep burgundy floral, warm amber lighting, and that unmistakable moody glow that feels like the final scene of a timeless love story.
Our Pinterest board became the storyboard. Each pin helped shape the atmosphere: layered tablescapes that felt intimate and indulgent, fashion moments worthy of a premiere, and details that balanced nostalgia with modern edge. Rather than recreating a specific era, we captured the feeling—sophisticated, sultry, and undeniably romantic.

A Box Office Romance
Maddy, Theo, and their immediate families gathered on a crisp October afternoon for the most special matinee feature: their wedding. Beneath the glow of the marquee, tear-worthy vows were exchanged, fresh-popped popcorn filled the air, and celebratory toasts echoed through the theater.
Our photographer captured group photos in front of the stage and then intimate portraits all around the theater of Maddy and Theo. The following photos tell the full story of their wedding.
Feline Features
Coincidentally — or perhaps fatefully — every couple getting married that day mentioned how much they love spending time with their cats. As a fellow cat enthusiast, I never need much of an excuse to weave a subtle feline detail into a wedding celebration. I’d also been pondering for months what to display on the massive poster boards at the front of the theater.
Then it clicked.
What if we featured cat-themed movie titles? But what I found was even better.
During a late-night scroll session I stumbled upon the most delightful Etsy shop featuring iconic blockbuster film posters reimagined with cats as the “stars.” They were the perfect blend of cinematic nostalgia and playful personality: unexpected and completely on brand for a theater wedding with a few proud cat lovers at the center of it all. And amazingly enough, I kept it a secret from our couples so they’d be completely surprised when they arrived. And boy, were they ever!
Our final lineup (and trust me, it was difficult to chose!):
Claws
Top Cat
The Purrminator
Paw Fiction
Cat to the Future
And once again, Maddy and Theo were ecstatic. Let’s just say their day was purrfectly cinematic.
MEOW!
Roll the credits — they’re married! 🎬
